Carmel-by-the-Sea

Where the Coast Becomes a Canvas

Rugged cliffs meet white sand beaches. Windswept cypress trees frame the Pacific. Art galleries line village streets, and the light shifts from golden to silver as the fog rolls in. This is the Monterey Peninsula — the inspiration behind our debut collection and one of three destinations in this year's choose-your-escape giveaway.

A walk beneath Monterey cypress trees at Carmel Beach01

Carmel-by-the-Sea

A Village Built for Wandering

Carmel's white sand beach sits at the end of a village with no street addresses, no chain stores, and no shortage of charm. Walk beneath ancient Monterey cypress trees along the coastal bluffs, duck into galleries and boutiques tucked inside storybook cottages, and end the evening at one of the restaurants that make this one of California's most beloved small towns.

The Art Scene

Galleries Around Every Corner

Carmel has been an artist colony since the early 1900s. Today, dozens of galleries line the streets — from contemporary paintings and sculpture to photography and fine craft. It's the kind of place where you turn a corner and stop walking because something in a window catches your eye.

The Lone Cypress on the Pebble Beach coastline03
Pebble Beach golf course above the Pacific Ocean

17-Mile Drive

The Lone Cypress & Pebble Beach

One of the most scenic drives on Earth winds through Del Monte Forest along the rocky coastline. The Lone Cypress — standing on its granite perch for over 250 years — is the most photographed tree in North America. Nearby, the legendary Pebble Beach Golf Links hugs the cliffs where the Pacific crashes against the shore. Even if you never pick up a club, the views alone are worth the drive.

McWay Falls dropping onto a cove along the Big Sur coast04

Worth the Drive

McWay Falls & the Big Sur Coast

Head south from Carmel on Highway 1 and the road becomes the destination. About 45 minutes down the coast, the cliffs of Big Sur give way to one of the most photographed spots in California — McWay Falls, an 80-foot waterfall that drops straight onto a pristine cove beach in Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park. The walk to the overlook is barely half a mile on a mostly paved path — ten minutes and you're standing above it. The drive alone, winding along the edge of the Pacific with nothing but ocean and sky, is one of the great road trips in the world.

Cannery Row lit up in the evening in Monterey05

Monterey

Cannery Row

Once the sardine capital of the world — immortalized by John Steinbeck — Cannery Row has reinvented itself as a waterfront destination of restaurants, shops, wine tasting rooms, and the world-famous Monterey Bay Aquarium. The old cannery buildings still stand, their industrial bones now filled with energy and light.

Included with Your Trip

Monterey Bay Aquarium

Perched on the edge of the Pacific at the end of Cannery Row, the Monterey Bay Aquarium is one of the finest in the world. Stand face-to-face with sea otters, watch jellyfish drift through electric blue light, and peer into the vast Open Sea exhibit. Two admission tickets are included with this trip — it's the kind of place you don't want to rush.

A race car on a track in the golden California hills07

Just Up the Road

WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca

Tucked into the golden hills east of Monterey, Laguna Seca is one of the most iconic racetracks in the world. Its famous Corkscrew turn — a blind, downhill left-right with a five-and-a-half-story elevation drop — has to be seen to be believed. Whether or not there's a race weekend during your visit, the track and surrounding area are a destination of their own.

The fine print

NO PURCHASE OR PAYMENT IS NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. ODDS DEPEND ON THE TOTAL NUMBER OF ELIGIBLE ENTRIES RECEIVED.
