About the studio
A life in paint, shared by post.
The Painted Few grew from a simple wish: to make an artist’s life of looking, traveling, and painting available in a form that could be held.
The story
More than three decades of attention.
The Painted Few started long before it had a name — on work trips to places I never expected to fall for, and on family trips with my wife and daughters, chasing the kind of light that makes you stop walking and just look for a minute.
Some of my favorite memories aren't the landmarks at all. They're searching for sea shells with my daughters along a white sandy beach, everyone's pockets full of the "best one" by the end of the walk. Coffee on a balcony before anyone else in the house is awake. A wrong turn down some little street that turned into the best part of the trip. The kind of simple, ordinary moments that end up being what you actually remember a year later.
I've always been the guy who wants to bring a piece of a place home with him. Something that goes beyond the usual souvenir. Thirty-plus years of painting has taught me that a place isn't really the buildings or the coastline — it's the people you shared it with and the mood that settled over you while you were there.
That's what I'm after with every piece I paint. Not a postcard version of a destination, but the feeling of it — so that when it's sitting on your desk or your bookshelf, it brings back your own memories as much as mine.
Each season, I pick one destination and build a collection around it: I paint the originals, have them printed on museum-quality cotton paper, sign and number each one, and send them out to an interested group of people who want real art in their homes — not something mass-produced, and not something you'd find hanging in a hundred other living rooms.
No galleries. No factory runs. Just the work, from my studio to your home.
